Re: Rye cover crop
In one of the recent webinars Dan suggested cutting the rye back now. Let the green decompose in the soil as the rye grows back. Then when decent height again, cut it back. And then after it grows back again, terminate. Now how to terminate cover crops - that is question for Dan or others. Couple no...

Re: Hungry Bin mixing?
thanks Steve for asking the same question I had on HB mixing. Couple more HB questions to add to this thread from HB 1-month newbie. [HB as vermicomposting upgrade from rubbermaid bin system. Worms are active at the surface, some moisture on lid, a few roaming worms, leachate is becoming darker at 1...

Re: Planting Spreadsheets
@Peasintherain and I collaborated offline on a seed planting calendar. Can be setup with your starting date, frost dates. Filtered, etc. Here is the link to a Google sheets version https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lZETRXqdLczVrTwvwvcFTUMH3CBtT-ROKOLRV6FkJcU/edit?usp=sharing and I think this l...

Re: Bokashi (and other composting) questions...
Very excited to have found this resource. I started a bokashi bucket a few months ago. I already had a 3 bin, hot compost system in the yard, and a worm bin in the basement. The draw of Bokashi was 2 fold - 1. I'd read it was a high source of nitrogen to help heat the pile, and 2. that it could pro...

Re: Rain water storage
following. interested in low pressure pump system to distribute from cistern into drip irrigation.
thoughts on using chlorinated city water? seems like one of those obvious to avoid given how we are trying to increase soil microbial life. but...cannot yet store enough rainwater.

Re: Fencing
Hi Kristin, I have been using 8' spaced utility grade 4x4 cedar, and 7' field fencing wire around 1/4 acre. Have run a coated wire clothesline along the top and through the posts for extra top rigidity. One trick I have used is wrapping at least the top 6-10" of the post in contact with the gro...

Re: Path Cover
Unfortunately local tree companies are not as willing these days to drop a load of chips for cash. I would like to create my own woodchips for the compost, paths from abundant local resource - so thinking of getting a chipper. Have used a neighbours small electric unit which kept clogging. Anyone ha...
