Re: is white fungus growing on undigested food scraps ok for worms to eat?

White fungus that looks like thin hairs is actually a sign of a healthy, thriving environment!

Re: Rye cover crop

We used Rye this year in our fall cover crop and I have to say that I would not choose to use it again. The beetles LOVE it, but it is difficult to terminate. We also planted some buckwheat, which winter killed wonderfully, and the worms just LOVE it! It the future, I'll be using Buckwheat over Rye ...

Re: Bokashi (and other composting) questions...

Andrew, I also have a few questions about my bokashi. I have several buckets that have been sitting since Oct/Nov and they're completely frozen now, and so is my compost pile, but they don't seem to be fermenting properly. I had checked on them months after they'd been sealed and no smell or decomp ...

Re: Easier compared to main season?

Over the last few years, we have found that we eat much less cauliflower/broccoli during the summer months as there is so much more abundance then. This, combined with pest pressure during the summer months, has made cauliflower and broccoli a wonderful fall/early winter/over winter option. It is de...

Re: Where's it go?

I'm not sure it helps, but I just allocate a space for it in a bed. I'd love to hear more about planting it under fruit trees.

Re: Making Inoculant

Hi, you can buy Andrews Bokashi bran at Local or here on his website...alternatively, you could totally make your own. I believe he talks about that in one of the composting videos. https://terrafloraorganics.com/shop/ols/products/bokashi-bran-inoculant-and-soil-amendment Last year, I thought for su...

Re: Hello from South Okanagan BC

Hi Julia, I love the Harvest Hut idea! I'd also like to have some info on your rental suite as the hubs and I like the Oliver/Osoyoos area. Also, I'd LOVE to learn about sweet potato slips. I did try the glass of water last year, but it just went moldy. Hmmm...does that need to start now?

Re: Food Security Steph

Welcome Steph, it's great to have you join us. I am a public school educator that does the best I can to teach my 5 year olds where food comes from and how to grow their own. I'd love to chat with you about the program you ran. I also share the 'born in the wrong decade' sentiment; it's so real. We ...
