Re: Germination issues

I have never tried Parsnips before but I had great success with carrots in a new planting area this June. I cut down an old Forsythia to get more food space. I just cut the forsythia to ground and left the roots in but the carrots were planted a couple of feet away. I just pulled the Creeping Butter...

Boulevard Potatoes

I have a narrow boulevard strip in the front of my property. I have some Blueberries and Raspberries in for a portion and had 16 feet of empty space. I did not prep the soil at all but placed the potatoes out and just covered with 4" of compost. Kept that topped with more compost as they grew. ...

Final haul from Andrews Potato in container video

I just watched the Vignette Andrew did on the Potatoes in containers that finished with him topping them up after fully greening out. What was the final haul on those 100 gallon grow bags? Did you get a video? If it is up did I just miss it?

Where to start?

Funny that this is the one empty Topic. Now I am no expert her at all but with the cold late spring here on the coast and the looong dry summer, followed by a late fall, I see the need but also now with the influence Humans have had on all things natural. What do we use as a measuring stick? I did r...

Re: Irrigation system

Well I have been negligent in following this course religiously with life and other courses. One thing I do know is that I NEED Irrigation! My hand watering with a pathetic domestic pressure was not enough. When I started to just use a sprinkler (that only would cover 10 foot radius with my 2 gpm fl...

Re: i'm going to start my bokashi system... what is the larger blue drum used for?

Currently in the hunt for a storage drum. Hard to find smaller ones that have a sealing lid. I found some 45 gallon ones on FB marketplace that I hope to use. I know it will get heavy though. Seems like there are a lot of 55 gallon but the smaller ones I see are either a closed lid with small openin...

Re: Compost Tea Recipe

Angela, a simple sprayer used for fertilizers or whatever that you can pick up at hime depot or other hardware stores are OK. This if for foliar application of a compost tea. (Be sure there are no filters that may be smaller that 400 microns (.4mm) or it will not let limit microorganisms like nemato...

Re: Slugs

I have had some slug issues and have a fair bit if habitat for them with leaf mulch on my beds and wood chip paths. My biggest hits have been sowing seeds when the young shoots come up but I am moving to doing my own starts to give them a head start as well as buy time for better succession planting...

Re: Bokashi Lids and storage

@Andrew When storing bokashi in larger buckets, you say to wait until it has fermented. Do you try to keep it covered still when you have a partial storage bucket to maintain anaerobic conditions? I have been transferring into another 5 gallon bucket can closing it so I am not using another two buck...
