What would make a good cover at the base of blueberry bushes? or , Do they prefer to just have bare soil, a mulch, a low cover crop? Wondering if covering the soil is good for them to keep moisture in, and keep roots cool in the heat, and how to best take care of them. I have a handful of baby 2 year old plants and want to give them the best chance :) Thanks for any tips!

Commercially, they mulch with sawdust or fine woodchips from coniferous trees: typically, pine or fir.

I suggest you do the same. When the plants are more established you could add a living mulch: maybe a herb such as sage, thyme, oregano or rosemary. But again, mulch around the plants first and wait till they are established and you've maintained a weed free area around the base of the plants before going with a living mulch.
