I am curious if anyone has planting flowers in compost/soil placed on top of wood chips?
I have had good success with produce using the carboard (if needed/available),wood chips then compost/soil method. But I have not tried flowers in this setup. My concern is that the flowers like zinnias, cosmos, etc get quite tall and 'top heavy', the roots may not be able to hold in the thick bed of wood chips and the plants could topple.
I would be looking at placing 6-10 inches of wood chips and then 4-6 inches of soil on top.
Thoughts?

A deep mulch system works as good for vegetables as it does for flowers. You may need to support the flowers in the first year but I wouldn't be too concerned. Maybe pinch the flowers back harder than normal to keep the plants short and stocky.
