APRIL 11, 2022... it's still rather cool outside but i'm grateful that the garlic i planted last winter, the chives and some cool weather crops such as lettuce, spinach and radishes have popped up in the hoop house. all of the beds have been amended with aged turkey compost and some of the beds have bokashi buried in them. next time, i'll bury the bokashi deeper because the crows have been digging them up...

MAY 13TH.... radishes seem to be doing well and we've been harvesting them since about 2 weeks ago. i noticed that some of them split - not sure why... perhaps over watering? garlic are now over 2 feet tall and some are about the same diameter as a loonie... and the mint, as expected, are thriving in containers...

the garlic now are about 2 feet tall... with all the cool, wet weather we've been getting, i haven't watered them at all... i also recently planted leeks between the garlic. according to dan's most recent video (vignette 1.2 - planting after covering the ground with decaying plant material), i think i could have planted the leeks deeper.

i'm going to wait another week or two before transplanting my seedlings into beds. overnight temperatures are now over 10C on average, but the daytime temperatures are about mid to high teens...

it's been a great year for cool weather loving crops. garlic are now 4 feet tall and thicker than a toonie! first scape made its appearance... not sure how tomatoes will fare this year, but i decided to companion plant them amongst lettuce and see what happens.

last year my crop of potatoes was a disaster and so, this year i decide to experiment with growing them in a large fabric container. i mulched heavily with straw.
