This patch of existing garden is about 20 by 10 feet and has been used for a veg garden but tends to have a lot of weeds. Crab grass, dandelions. The garden is surrounded by grass.
It is clay based soil.
I would like to convert to a no dig garden. I would put down cardboard and then top with about 5 in of some purchased garden soil and a top layer of Terra Flora Gold compost/mulch.

Is it ok to make the top layer with purchased soil?.
I have some purchased soil available so don’t want to buy anymore compost right now.
the purchased soil product is a bagged garden soil product that is mainly loam and some compost.
(Note -I have bought this bagged soil in the past and it did not contain weed seeds)

The procedure you're using is good. Make sure the cardboard is thick enough.

I can't make a judgement here for the quality of the bagged soil. There are too many variables. You could bring in a sample for Andrew to look at.
