How do chickens fit into the composting? I'm in the city, have chickens. Generally easy to give them all my scraps and use deep litter method to not have to empty too often. Tried worms and bokashi before this course it was hard to separate which scraps to give to each.

Animal manures are a gift for the compost pile and chicken manure is high in nitrogen so it makes a great additive to the brown pile. I generally add the bedding and combine it with woody material (wood chips) to counter the high nitrogen content of the manure and it makes a hot fast pile. I usually do a chicken bedding compost heap once a year in late winter and turn it frequently to speed it up. After about a month when it starts to slow down I pile it away and let it sit. I use it for plants that need a nitrogen boost.
