What would be the right time to start Brussels sprouts from seed on West coast?

Hi Olga, you would want to have them in the ground by early July. Then I would count back about 4-5 weeks for a transplant to be ready. That would give you seeding date indoors sometime end of May. You can do them earlier because they need a fairly long season of growth but the pest pressures on them from aphids and cabbage moth are high so I suggest getting them in as late as possible.

I'll also mention that a late June or early July planting will give you Brussel sprouts for late fall.

Try a mid-June planting for October harvest. Choose faster maturing varieties.

I share Jack's experience with pest pressure for early planted Brussels. We've struggled growing pest free sprouts from an early start which is why we plant them as late as we do.
