I haven't tried beer traps.
You can also try trapping with pieces of squash, apple or other sweet fruit/vegetable. Remove slugs in evening / early morning when they visit for a snack.
Some people have also put small mason jars over new plants to protect from slugs. A small greenhouse of sorts.

I'm going to try this. I accidentally left my bokashi leachate out in a pot and came back a week later to find slugs all around the rim, so that might be another tastier treat for them then say your bok choy leaves. I am going to try beer too though, just waiting for a warm Friday night so I can share mine
